I like board books that are bright and vibrant with uncluttered pages that focus on things that would be relevant to a baby's world. Here are three series that are new in the library that I would recommend.
Natural Baby board books from Priddy Books. The images are bright and colorful. There are photos of real babies. There are objects to point to and talk about that are in baby's world. There is a little handle that allows the little ones to hold the book easier.
Scholstic Rookie Toddler board books -Cute, bright, simple board books. Again, the pages are uncluttered and feature fun photos or illustrations of objects that introduce the baby to the world around them.
Hello Genius board books from Picture Window Books - fun, fun, fun! Now, if you are looking for a little story and not just a look and point board book (although you can extend the discussions a lot with these books) this is a great series. The stories are simple. I like the large format and large print. The illustrations are silly and the stories, although involving animals, are relevant to a little one- bath, lunch, potty, teeth, etc.
I am not a fan of board books that are shortened versions of picture books. Not only do you lose the beauty of the original picture book, but the board book is always too small, too long and and too cluttered for me. If you think about it, they shrink a much larger book into a tiny book. I love board books with a clean white background, large format, large text, pages with bright images with little text, full of objects in a baby's world.
