Preschool Pretend & Play- Chickens Run Wild

I think I did chickens last year...

As I said to Library Friends- big and little- I don't like to repeat programs or themes because there are so many new ones to do always, but I had to do 'Chickens' because there are so many new, fun chicken books out!

We started by shaking our eggs to Laurie Berkner's I Know a Chicken and then we read Chickens Run Wild by Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen and Interrupting Chicken by David Ezra Stein.

Our regular weekly rhyme concentrating on the number 10- 5 Eggs and 5 Eggs fit right in!

Then we danced to the fun song- Chicken Fun by Mary Jo Huff! Hilarious!

We did our Word Family Activity- UG was the family:
Can you sing the UG family, UG family, UG family?
Can you sing the UG family?
Come and sing with me!

BUG, RUG, MUG, HUG- and we gave our grownups great big hugs!

We finished with two other books- The Loopy Coop Hens by Janet Morgan Stoeke and Peepsqueak by Leslie Ann Clark! Because why? We're on the MOVE!

Color flannelboard:
This little chicken is BLACK
She stands in the barnyard by a big hay stack
This little chicken is RED
She is very tired and won't get out of bed.

This little chicken is BROWN
She is feeling sad and wearing a frown.
This little chicken is YELLOW
She's friends with the rooster; he's a handsome fellow.

This little chicken is WHITE
She dances and plays; oh what a sight!
This little chicken is PURPLE
She spends her day running around in circles.

This little chicken is GREEN
She is the silliest chicken I've ever seen.
This little chicken is BLUE
She lays eggs for me and you.

This little chicken is PINK
She goes down to the pond to get a drink.
All of these chickens live at the farm
Out in the big RED barn.

Other books out: Chicken Butt, Blue Chicken, Chicken Big, Tough Chicks, Charlie Chick,
