Hello, My Name is Joe

I tried a fun song today- Hello, My Name is Joe (also known as the Button Factory Song). You move one hand, then the next and then a foot and another foot and some more body parts until everything is moving at once! It is very difficult!

Other songs that we have done that are similar to this are...

My Aunt Came Back
Penguin Song
One Finger One Thumb
Mother Gooney Bird
I guess Tooty-Ta and Root-chy-ca might fit in here, too.

Do you know of any other ones? Please share them with me!

Buttons

This week in Preschool Pretend & Play, our theme is Buttons! Buttons to fasten our clothes, buttons to push and belly buttons to tickle!

We started with our 5 Eggs & 5 Eggs rhyme which my LLFs really have gotten good at doing! Yeah! Then we moved on to our Word Family- the -OP Family.

Can you sing the OP family, OP family, OP family
Can you sing the Op family
Come and sing with me!

We danced to a new song- The Freeze Song on the Three Little Kittens CD.

We read I Like Your Buttons by Nancy Cote. What a feel good kind of book! What a lesson to learn that simple kindness can spread and spread and even come back to visit you!

We read Button by Sara Fanelli which was about a runaway button that goes on an adventure!

Fun New Books!

These 4 new books from Kristen McCurry published by Capstone are fantastic fun! These are great books for one-on-one! These photo puzzles are packed full of little details. Will you remember what you see? Turn the page and find out!

Put on your thinking cap! The puzzles in this book are photo analogies. Find the connection between pairs of photos and you'll solve the puzzle.

You'd know a lion if you spotted one, right? But what if its whiskers and claws were all you saw? Could you still tell what it was? Solve these tricky puzzles by guessing the big picture from its parts.

You probably sort stuff every day, but can you solve a sorting puzzle? Each tricky puzzle has four photos. To solve the puzzle, figure out which doesn't fit with the others.

Family Literacy Play Date

Play Literacy supports the idea that children learn best through play. Young children can learn the fun, as well as the importance, of reading and writing in everyday life through imaginative play.

Each month, there is a different theme. We begin by reading a non-fiction book and a story about the theme. Last night was Doctor's Office. We read Doctor Ted by Andrea Beaty and Let's Talk About Going to the Doctor by Marianne Johnston. We usually have a rhyme...

Miss Polly
Miss Polly had a dolly who was sick, sick, sick.
So she phoned for the doctor to be quick, quick, quick.
The doctor came with his bag and hat,
And knocked at the door with a rat tat tat.

He looked at the dolly and shook his head,
And said "Miss Polly put her straight to bed."
He wrote a pad for a pill, pill, pill.
I’ll be back in the morning with my bill, bill, bill.

My Blog

My blogs are for my library patrons. Many blogs by children's librarians out here in cyberspace are for other librarians, but mine are for my Big Library Friends (BLFs) and my Little Library Friends (LLFs).

Often, BLFs ask what books or music I used in a program, so I like to recap what we did here. I also like to share inexpensive educational ideas that my BLFs could do at home, as well as book suggestions, Internet resources, etc. that might be of interest.

Today, I wanted to share with you 4 blogs that I think have very creative ideas, so if you like to do activities at home with your little ones, these might be a great resource for you!

Pies

In Preschool Pretend & Play this week, we talked about PIES. Mmmm, mmmm!

We read...
Apple Pie ABC by Alison Murray. Funny book about a little dog who just wants a tast of that apple pie!

All for Pie and Pie for All by David Martin. A sweet little story about a family of cats, a family of mice and a family of ants that all share in the the apple pie that Grandma Cat makes.

Baby Pie by Tom MacRae. Three little trolls go out to find a baby for the baby pie they want to make...but they are in for a surprise!

Pie in the Sky by Lois Ehlert. Did you ever hear of a Pie Tree? Well, there's one growing right before your eyes in this story!

Get Fit- Let's Get Moving!

In Tales for Twos, we read stories about MOVING our bodies. There are a lot of fun books out there like these three by Doreen Cronin- Bounce, Wiggle and Stretch. The cool SCANIMATION picture books are great too like Waddle and Gallop.

These are all short books where the little ones can actually GET UP and MOVE along with the book. So, they are perfect for this age group!

We jumped to Jim Gill's Jumping and Counting song  because jumping is great for our bones!.

Here are some fun chants:
Healthy habits are good for me, good for me, good for me
Healthy habits are good for me, All day long!

Other ideas-Eating vegetables, drinking milk, playing outside, sleeping and let them think of some other ideas too!

We are healthy little ones!
Watch us jump and watch us run!
Healthy bodies, healthy hearts!
We are winners from the start!
